An idea: shiro finding a super earth dog-like alien stray and nearly crying cause maybe it looks like a dog he used to own??? But he slowly earns its trust and brings it with him on the castle and it’s happy and pure and it sleeps with him which helps with his nightmares and no im not crying what

bosstoaster:

They found him in a demolished city, one days after the initial attacks.

The mission was simple: Recover anything they could from the ruined government building to bring to the evacuated population.

In the end, there wasn’t much left of the building.  They had Yellow lift up the top and dug through the rubble.  Aside from a few drawers with of papers, and a couple of sturdier metal decorations, the place was pretty much demolished.

But something had moved in.

The sound of rustling initially made Shiro turn, arm let and aggressive.  But then he saw the reflected purple spots on two dark eyes, and he paused.  Oh.  An animal. To be cautious, he turned off his arm but lit the built in flashlight, and put it closer to see the shape of the animal without shining directly on it.

“Apollo?”

What did you think of the lion switch. I personally hated it as it doesn’t connect to what we knew of the Lions and how they chose their paladins in season 1. and Lauren said she thinks the blue lions choose the most insecure person of the group (hated that as well). Do you think they Retconned the Lions. Because?

radioactivesupersonic:

I don’t think that’s what’s happening at all.

I think that with the Lion Switching, it’s making a conscious decision to characterize the Lions as people who understand the situation is dangerous and are willing to work outside of their comfort zone to accommodate it.

Red working with Lance doesn’t mean that Lance being Blue Paladin and Keith being Red Paladin was a lie. What it means is that Red took a look at Keith and where he was going and knew that the best thing for him, to protect him- because Red always wants to protect Keith- was to make sure Lance stuck close to him.

Because Blue and Red knew, and agreed, that Lance would have a better time wielding the wild, high-speed Red than Allura, for whom any Lion would be a harsh adjustment from the stately juggernaut of the Castle.

Because I think what this is cementing is the Lions love their paladins, all of them, and really, really want to help, and this doesn’t always look like unconditional support. Sometimes, it looks like gently, but insistently, pushing them away.

I’d also say that, as someone who’s seen the interview you’re talking about, Blue didn’t choose “The most insecure person”. Blue is the archetypal nurturer. So her relationship with her paladin is partially to nurture them, but she also looks to someone who nurtures others.

Think about how quickly Lance is inclined to protect other people. Think about how when Keith was clearly sinking into a very dark, upset frame of mind, everybody else turns and looks at Lance, who, not realizing anybody else is prompting him, steps up to comfort Keith.

Blue is a nurturer and her true paladin is also a nurturer. But she’s not opposed, in the slightest, to taking others who are vulnerable under her wings. Think about how Allura connects with Blue at a low, fearful point, and Blue’s actions soothe those fears.

The thing is, the Lions have made it clear who their true, beloved paladins are. Nothing will change that. Black came for Shiro.

However, with the practical reality of their situation, they need to be able to adapt and work outside of that. If Black had chosen to just sit there like a stone and not respond to anyone, period, ever, if Blue and Red hadn’t conspired to seat Lance and Allura, they would not have held out. They wouldn’t have had Voltron when they needed it.

Saying “No, you’re not Shiro, I don’t want to talk to you” is a level of pettiness and selfishness Black knows none of them can afford. It would have gotten the team killed. It’s a testament far more to how much she does love Shiro that Black’s response in his absence is to do what she can to protect Shiro’s team.

I really love your baby!Keith and Dads of Marmora headcanon. But how would Keith react if he ever had to interact with a baby galra? Would he find some hidden ‘older nestmate’ instinct in himself? Or be left feeling awkward and unsure what to do with this bundle of purple fluff that’s suddenly attached itself to him? (And would Shiro start getting strange feels about seeing Keith holding a baby?)

allawander:

I feel like Keith is a guy with pretty good instincts. It’d be weird for him at first, because Keith is just not? used? to? physical? affection?? And now this tiny, fluffy baby just… won’t let go? And surely there’s someone more qualified to take care of the little guy, but when Keith tries to detach him from his shirt the crying starts, oh god, okay, you can stay there!

And something about the pitch of the crying hits his brain

kind of

funny and flips a switch he didn’t know was there, because suddenly he catches himself nuzzling the little cub’s face and ears the same way the Blades sometimes do for him.

The crying dies down, and in the lull Keith has a moment to quietly ask himself what the fuck that reflex was before shrugging and deciding to just go with it.

Later on, when the galra baby is getting a bit restless, Keith (deciding to go with his instincts again) starts play-growling and pretending to bite his fingers and ears. The cub tries to growl back, but ends up just kind of gurgling aggressively. So Keith ends up sitting on the floor with the baby propped up against his knees to face him, teaching him to growl.

Shiro walks in to see how Keith’s handling his unexpected babysitting duties and stops in the door, because Keith is laughing while the baby galra mouths at his hand and growls the least intimidating kitten-growl Shiro’s ever heard. And every now and then, Keith will stop laughing long enough to try to growl back, but the laughter pulls his face into the wrong shape for it, and he’s practically giggling.

Shiro has to step back out of the room and take a minute to collect himself, because sweet quiznak that was the purest thing he’s ever seen or heard.

radioactivepeasant:

A thought: Pidge isn’t going to stay a little bitty 14 year old forever. She’s going to get at least a little taller, and the boys all dread the day when Baby Sister realizes she’s catching a lot of eyes.

(Literally, in one case, when they visited a planet where the acceptable form of expressing attraction was to fling your spare eyeball at the object of your affection. Pidge caught two on reflex and Allura barely managed to talk the two aliens out of a duel to the death for Pidge’s hand in marriage)

Shiro is confident that Pidge can take care of herself, but he’s slightly worried that she is entirely too amused by a lot of this attention. But he resigns himself to playing the supportive dad/chaperone (“Please don’t flirt with that guard if you’re just going to rob him later, Pidge. You’ll mess up our reputation”. “LANCE WHAT DID I JUST TELL PIDGE. IT GOES DOUBLE FOR YOU.”)

Keith and Hunk and Lance, meanwhile, suddenly get super protective of Pidge. Oh, they know she’ll kick the butt of anyone who messes with her. She’ll probably wallop them so hard their ancestors will feel it. (“She did kill a man once, then radio his commanding officer while he was interrogating Shiro just to yell ‘You’re next!’”, Hunk points out, “Maybe we should be more worried about her demolishing whole garrisons?”) Lance’s reasoning behind his concern is just “The heart is a soft muscle, dude.”

He takes it upon himself to explain to the amused Pidge all the things he remembers about when his sisters were dating, including some interesting commentary on their past significant others. Pidge is quick to point out that the aliens they encounter really don’t fit human classifications of behavior and culture and Lance freaks out.

Hunk is very sweet and supportive. He knows Pidge doesn’t need their help.
But still, she has the unenviable position of being the Youngest Paladin, and thus everyone is a wee bit more protective of her (and of Lance, who I headcanon is the second youngest, but Lance hasn’t figured that out yet). Hunk will offer advice if asked, help Pidge with her hair, but mostly stay out of the way. But if you hurt her. Oh boy.

There was one plant-dragon-ish being that Pidge sort of liked on one mission. And they said something rather cruel to her. When she confronted them, they shoved her. And very quickly were greeted with a sight no one ever forgot: Hunk tackling the being, shouting “YOU’VE HAD IT, PAL!” and having to be dragged off by Allura.

Keith just kind of quietly hovers. If a being is paying unwelcome attention to Pidge, he waits until he can tell if Pidge will do anything or not, then sidles up and whispers “Should I kill them?”
They haven’t figured out if he’s serious or not yet.
