I want Lightning and Noctis to sit down and have a chat about their respective Gods in which Noctis ultimately admits “And then he asked me to die. And I did.” and Lightning just goes “You fucking what?!”
Oh, and somewhere in the background Bahamut instantly starts sweating nervously.
Purely self indulgent, ala my last fic, but how about Regis&Noct hugs?
“Take care on the long road.”
“Dad, I’m only going to be gone three days…”
Everyone talks about how the original ending of FFXV makes them cry.
But for me, it’s the beginning that still absolutely guts me.
Noct left angry at his dad.
He left angry, because he was upset that his father was conceding to Niflheim. He left angry, because he didn’t agree with his judgement. He left angry, but he was heading off to marry Luna as per the terms of the treaty anyway, because he’s the crown prince and his dad was the king and it was his duty to serve his country in any way his king deemed fit.
Noct left, feeling like their argument was on hold. That he could pick it up again later, or maybe take those few days away to bury it down far enough that he could pretend it hadn’t happened when he came back, that he wasn’t as upset about it as he let on. And then he would return, and then they could carry on arguing, or not arguing.
But Regis knew that Noctis wasn’t coming back. That this conversation was it.
I think this is how Regis would have loved to end that conversation. But couldn’t because he would have tipped Noctis off.
(Or maybe this is how Noct wishes it happened, in retrospect. He wishes he had left things on better terms. He wishes he had been kinder. He wishes he had hugged his dad. He wishes his dad hadn’t shut him out)
