i think the reason the alternate ending feels so much better (besides the obvious Everyone Lives aspect) is that ignis actually fought to change noct’s destiny

one thing that bugged me to no end about the main game ending was how,, passive everyone was about noct’s impending death and the complete and total complacent acceptance that they could do nothing to change it, so they didn’t even try

like yeah ok everything sucked and people were dying and all the guys were feeling guilty and angry and it was all just. so overwhelming because it just would not stop and they couldn’t catch their breaths at all, i get that. i do, but it never sat right that none of them – ignis especially – didn’t even really bother to try to do anything. it was all ‘well this is what has to happen so i guess we should just accept it and get on with it’ and not once did they ever say ‘hey. this is bullshit and maybe this doesn’t need to be this way’

and that’s basically what the alternate ending does. ignis basically goes ‘fuck you i’m keeping him and you can’t stop me i’d like to see you try’ and he fights. he fights to change things because rolling over and accepting that noct had to die just because destiny or prophecy or divine providence or whatever said so wasn’t going to fly with him. he wasn’t going to let the man he loves and has sworn his life to just give up his life without doing everything he could to make it so he didn’t have to

tl;dr episode ignis delivered everything i wanted and more and i honestly could not be more satisfied with the new official True Ending to this game
