What if I never love anyone the way I loved him?“ I asked the space.

“You won’t,” it replied. “You never love the same way twice.”

We were good though,“ she said, “weren’t we?“

“Yeah. We were.” I replied.

“Why then? Why did things end like that?”

I thought for a minute.

“Because we grew up.”

She sighed.

“I never asked for that.”

“No one ever asks to grow up.” I said, “It just happens.”

“Do you think we could ever go back to the way things were?” she asked.

“I don’t think it would be the same.”

“No, I suppose not.”

She was silent.

“Thanks for being here with me tonight,” she said finally.

“That’s alright,” I said.

“I won’t see you again, will I?”

“I don’t know.”

She sniffed and flashed me a smile.

“I’ll remember you though. I’ll remember us.”

“I know,” I said. “Me too.”
